Czech Derby for favored Hazarder



On Sunday, June 27, the 101st CPIPG Czech Derby (Class A /local Graded-3/, 1 1/2 m, 3yo c+f, 2 mio. CZK) took place in Chuchle Arena Prague. The winner being the favored Hazarder with jockey Václav Janáček, Tcheque King finished second, Royal Word took third place. Fourteen three-year-old stallions and two mares presented themselves in the most prestigious and with a total prize-money of two million CZK (ca. 78 ths eur), also the richest flat race in Central Europe.

The winner of the Dr. Frankenberger Memorial Stakes Hazarder fulfilled the role of a betting favorite and in a good time 2:30,83 won by a length and a half before the winner of the June Stakes Tcheque King, followed by the winner of the Czech 2000 Guineas Royal Word by less than two lengths third. The top five were joined by the winner of the Starohájské criterium from Bratislava, the Rex of Thunder, and maiden Kamssio, who ran in Prague for the first time.

Hazarder achieved the third win (of four lifetime races), jockey Václav Janáček reached the 21st classic triumph of his career, the third win in the Czech Derby. Trainer Pavel Tůma and owner Jiří Charvát repeated the Derby-triumph after four years.
