Major races for favorites

The horse racing season in Chuchle Arena Prague continued on Sunday, April 23. It offered nine races, two of which belonged to the highest class and in both of which the favorites won.

Professor Václav Michal Memorial Stakes (Class A, 7f, 135 ths. czk, 3-y-o c+g), as a main trial races for The Czech 2000 Guineas, was won by Holly Happy, by a half lenght of Hidden Colony, with Fortune Gold third by another two and quarter lenght. Last year as a juvenille, Holly Happy traveled for four races to France, from where he brought three places. This was his first run in the Czech republic and the first win. Jockey Petr Foret and the owner of DS Pegas Jiří Trávníček (who is also a breeder of the colt) won this race for the fifth time, trainer Dalibor Török for the second time.

In the end of the Jaroslav Mašek Memorial Stakes (Class A, 7f, 135 ths. czk, 4-y-o and up), the expected duel between the winners of the last two years of this test took place. In the battle of seven-year-old matadors, the defender of last year's win was ultimately more successful, the white gelding of the The Sons of Sharpour stable Politicum, whose jockey Jiří Palík entered the list of winners for the first time, while trainer Konstantin Kobzarev for the second time. The previous (2021) winner Worth Choice finished second by three quarters of a length, two and a half lengths behind him the four-year-old filly Heidi High placed third.

Due to this year's classic tests, Unicredit Bank Stakes (Class B, 9f, 100 ths. czk, 3y-yo) was also closely watched. Two weeks after the winning debut, the bay colt Jardin Michelet turned into another full hit. Jockey Adam Florian, trainer Zdeněk Seménka and the Cardboard stable added another win at the end of the day and the 2019 season jockey-champion Florian (achieved the 12th lifetime double) is now only one step away from reaching the win no. 100.
